Schola Aestiva Latinitatis Vivae

Summer School of Spoken Latin > Schola Aestiva Latinitatis Vivae
This year's summer school (9-19 August, 2011) will offer all lovers of Roman culture an opportunity to learn Latin in a new way: not by reading and translating ancient authors, but by speaking about and listening to present-day matters.

There will be three groups: beginners (those new to the study of Latin), false beginners (who know Latin but have never tried to speak it) and advanced learners (who are experienced in both reading and speaking).

In the advanced group we shall discuss Latin poems of three contemporary women authors:  Anna Elissa Radke and Caecilia Koch from Germany and Carina Zeleny from Austria. Their topics vary and include love, [modern art], school and everyday life. The poems will not be read by the participants of the summer school, but recited by the
teacher (part by part and repeated many times) so that the students will enjoy and understand them and then express what they have heard in their own words - in Latin, of course. In the free time there will be an opportunity to see the city with Latin-speaking Posnanians as guides.

(Aug. Conf. I)

Schola Aestiva nostra (a die IX usque ad diem XIX m.

In schola veteranorum de carminibus Latinis trium mulierum nostra aetate viventibus agetur: Annae Elissae Radke Caeciliaeque Koch Germanarum Carinaeque Zeleny Austriacae. Argumenta eorum sunt varia: amor, artes recentes, schola, vita cottidiana. Carmina non a participibus scholae legentur, sed a magistra (in parvas partes divisa saepiusque iterata) recitabuntur, ut participes audiendo intellegant et deinde suis verbis - Latinis scilicet! - audita repetent.
Tempore otioso occasio urbem ducibus Latinis (Posnaniensibus) lustrandi dabitur.
