In the Interoperability Challenge Competition, AMU DemosceneSpirit - Łukasz Michniewicz, Szymon Majewski, Marek Banaszak, Magdalena Dudarska - came third. To see the DemosceneSpirit entry click here

The mentor of both teams is Tomasz Gdala, MSc. The Worldwide Finals were held in New York City, USA from July 8-13, 2011. About Imagine Cup

AMU student Łukasz Kalinowski won gold medal at 25th France International Championship of Mathematics & Logic in Paris
In the world finals, which took place on 26 and 27 August, Poles won 5 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals. Among gold medal winners were two primary school students - Piotr Kępczyński from Warsaw and Maria Horodecka from Gdynia, a secondary school student - Grzegorz Adamski from Szamotuły, a high school student - Kamil Dębowski from Suwalki and a student from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań - Łukasz Kalinowski.
Polish contestants brought as many as 12 medals - more than any other team.

Google Online Marketing Challenge 2011. Two AMU student teams in Europe Top 5 and one more in Europe Top 15
Members of our three teams were students of Applied Computing, AMU Faculty of Physics and students of Technical Applications of the Internet - a course run jointly by AMU, Poznań University of Economics and Poznań University of Technology. The three teams were taught by Dr Wojciech Czart. AMU teams take part in the Challenge since 2009. To learn more click here and here.

IUPAC World Chemistry Congress. Prof. Izabela Nowak distinguished
Professor Izabela Nowak, AMU Faculty of Chemistry, was among 23 women scientists worldwide who received the Distinguished Women in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering Award at the IUPAC World Chemistry Congress during a symposium entitled “Are women still underrepresented in science?” on 2 August in Puerto Rico.

Prestigious European Research Council Advanced Grant. Quantum resources: conceptuals and applications (QOLAPS)
AMU Faculty of Physics joins the research team led by Prof. Ryszard Horodecki (University of Gdańsk)

The studies of quantum resources - entanglement (E) and non-locality (NL) carried out over the last decade have broadened horizons of our conceptual understanding of Nature and at the same time opened unprecedented possibilities for practical applications.
The project aims at taking advantage of the most recent discoveries to understand the ultimate power and find novel applications of these resources. The main objectives are: E) to study novel entanglement-induced non-additivity effects in quantum communication and application of mixed state entanglement to quantum metrology NL) to recognize the influence of information causality on the power of quantum non-locality and verify the power of non-locality, and more generally contextuality for quantum computational speed-up. In particular, it is planned: E) to find new non-additivities by providing explicit constructions of bipartite channels, broadcast channels and quantum networks; to demonstrate experimentally non-additivity effects; to provide experimentally friendly entanglement measures in quantum networks; to analyse entanglement-enhanced metrology in presence of decoherence NL) to determine to what extent information-causality reproduces quantum mechanics; to generalize information causality to multipartite systems; to provide new fundamental information-theoretical principles behind quantum mechanics; to quantify and classify contextuality; to design and analyse multiparty non-local systems independently of quantum mechanics; to verify their usefulness for communication and computational tasks.
We shall extensively exploit multiple interrelations between these two aspects of quantum physics. The results of theoretical investigations will be implemented in labs by experimental partners. In particular, we plan pioneering implementations of quantum channel non-additivity effects. The proposed research lines will bring ground-breaking results for quantum information processing.
Established in 2007, the European Research Council is the first pan-European agency financially supporting the so-called "frontier research" (pioneering, cognitive research, leading to fundamental discoveries, breakthrough results.)Research project partners:
