Almost every AMU Faculty offers independent research options. In 2008 and 2009, Poland’s National Conference of Doctoral Students awarded AMU the title of the Best Institution of Higher Education in Poland.

Students who have a master's degree from reputable universities, are considered for postgraduate research programmes.

Postgraduate research degrees are individually supervised. We strongly recommend that prospective applicants make initial enquiries with the potential supervisor or Faculty before submitting a formal application. You must specify the research topic and send your research proposal and CV/Resume

1. A Research Proposal: a statement outlining the area of research that you are interested in including as much information as possible.
2. Resume / CV to include any industrial experience or published work

If the respose of the potential supervisor is positive, you must send:

3. Your formal application
4. Transcript of your degree marks - if you have not completed your degree please send a transcript of the marks obtained so far in your course and ask your referees to include a prediction of your final mark. Transcripts must be certified hard copies sent by post, electronic copies will not be accepted.
5. Two letters of reference in support of your application - At least one reference must be from an academic contact. If you are unable to obtain two academic references, current employers can also be accepted. References must be sealed and signed original hard copies on headed paper. Alternatively references will be accepted by e-mail but only from an official e-mail address.
6. For overseas students, evidence of your English abililty.

You can apply for admission to the PhD programme at any time of year - there are no application deadlines.

The fee is minimum 3000 Euro per year. It is expected that the thesis is completed in 3 or 4 years depending on a programme.

If you would like to do research at AMU, please write to the Head or Secretary of Doctoral Studies at a chosen Faculty (see Faculties > Contacts). If in doubt, please write to amu-pie@amu.edu.pl. It is the Faculty which approves the candidates.

Administrative matters are handled by Ms Joanna Hołderny,  e-mail: holderny@amu.edu.pl, Collegium Minus, Room 206, phone: (+48) 61 829 4068.
